About this event:
Dark Skies Star Party – Smokey Jack Observatory, Perseids Meteor Shower
(At the Bluff, west end of Main St., Westcliffe, CO)
Saturday, August 12, 2017 – 10:00PM
to Sunday, August 13, 2017 – 2:00AM
The Perseid Meteor shower is one of the best to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour and a large number of bright ones. The waning gibbous moon will block out many of the fainter meteors, but the Perseids are so bright and numerous that it should be a good show. Best viewed by lying flat on the ground or in a chaise lounge chair looking N or S with just your eyes. Dress warmly as The Bluff Park can get cold even in the summer months. No back-up date scheduled.
