Custer County boasts a long and varied history packed with stories of mining, railroads and cattle. Local volunteers keep these stories alive with their dedication to museums and historical sites. Without these volunteers, voices from our past might have been silenced for good.

Silver Cliff Museum curator Dorothy Urban devotes herself to managing the museum’s collection and knowing the area’s most interesting tales. Likewise, All Aboard Westcliffe chairman Mel Porth has led the million-dollar renovation of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad’s original engine house and 1901 depot. A growing team of volunteers stands behind him.
